The US military targeted two IRGC rocket launchers on Iran’s Larak Island. According to US officials, preparations were being made to deploy sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz from these launchers. The United States described the action as a limited and precise military operation.
After the US strike, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed retaliatory action. According to Iranian media, the IRGC targeted the US military bases King Hussein and Al-Azraq in Jordan with ballistic missiles. Iran described it as a response to the US attack on Larak Island.
Jordan’s military said its air defence systems intercepted eight missiles that entered the country’s airspace. The Iranian side has claimed heavy damage to US military bases, but these claims have not been independently confirmed.
The United States says the purpose of the action on Larak Island was to prevent possible Iranian mine-laying activity in the Strait of Hormuz. The waterway is extremely important for global oil supplies. After the latest military confrontation, crude oil prices also rose by more than 2 percent.
The new development has increased fears that the US-Iran conflict could widen further. Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, the international community is now watching the next military moves by both countries.
