Iran Targets US Bases; Jordan Intercepts Missiles

CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply after Iran launched a large-scale missile and drone attack against multiple United States military installations across the region. According to reports, Iran claimed to have targeted 21 U.S. military sites in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait in retaliation for recent American airstrikes on Iranian military facilities near the Strait of Hormuz.

Among the primary targets was the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, which hosts U.S. military personnel and advanced fighter aircraft. Jordanian air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed five incoming Iranian missiles before they could reach their intended targets. Authorities reported no casualties or significant damage from the intercepted projectiles.

The Iranian operation followed U.S. strikes on Iranian radar, air defense, and military installations, which Washington described as a defensive response to incidents involving American military assets in the Gulf region. Tehran, however, characterized its actions as legitimate retaliation and warned of further consequences if attacks on Iranian interests continue.

Regional governments have heightened security measures amid fears of a broader conflict. The latest exchange has raised concerns about regional stability, global energy supplies, and international diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing a wider war. Financial markets reacted cautiously, with oil prices rising on worries about potential disruptions in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
