He is scheduled to take part in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly and address the General Assembly on Wednesday. Iranian state media has confirmed his arrival in New York. Before leaving for the United States, Pezeshkian said he would firmly present Iran’s position and interests on the international stage. The war, Iran’s stance and continuing tensions with Western countries are expected to be key issues in his speech.
Pezeshkian’s visit comes at a time when diplomatic efforts are continuing alongside the military conflict between the United States and Iran. During the United Nations General Assembly, talks have also been held between American and Iranian officials through mediators. US special envoy Steve Witkoff described the talks as positive, although no agreement between the two countries has been announced.
The US administration has allowed the Iranian president, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and essential diplomatic staff to attend the General Assembly. There is also discussion about a possible meeting between Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump, but no official announcement has yet been made on a meeting between the two leaders.
