CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: As the global world powers seek restraint from further escalating the Israel-Iran tensions, former US president Donald Trump has responded to the recent Iran air strikes. By reposting a 2018 all-caps tweet threatening the president of Iran he said the US would not stand for “DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH”.
“To Iranian President Rouhani: NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE. WE ARE NO LONGER A COUNTRY THAT WILL STAND FOR YOUR DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH. BE CAUTIOUS!” read the 2018 tweet.
Trump posted a screenshot on his social media platform, Truth Social. Trump’s post, in 2018, was a reply to the then-Iranian president Hassan Rouhani, who warned the US that a war with Iran would be the “mother of all wars”.
Though Trump was often seen as a person upending many traditional norms of the US, he was frequently criticised for his closeness to authoritarian figures including Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong-un.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden urged Iran not to attack Israel following an April 1 airstrike–in which Iran’s top military commander was killed in Syria.
After Iran’s retaliation attack on Israel, White House National Security spokesperson John Kirby said that the US isn’t seeking “a wider war in the region” after it assisted Israel to defend itself from Iran’s attack.
“We don’t seek an escalation,” said Kirby.
