CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Ishan Kishan breaks Virat Kohli's 10-year-old T20 international batting record

Nisin. In the men's cricket semi-final of the Asian Games 2026, Ishan Kishan produced a superb batting performance against Sri Lanka and broke Virat Kohli's 10-year-old T20 international record. Ishan scored an unbeaten 80 off 46 balls and played a key role in taking India to 169 runs in 20 overs.

This was Ishan's eighth fifty-plus innings in T20 international cricket in this calendar year. With it, he went past Virat Kohli's record of seven fifty-plus scores set in 2016. Kohli had scored 50 or more seven times in T20 international cricket in 2016.

Ishan hit four fours and five sixes in his innings. During the knock, he also added another record to his name. He became the batter with the highest individual score for India in T20 internationals while batting at No. 5 or lower. The previous record was held by Manish Pandey, who had scored an unbeaten 79 against South Africa in 2018.

After Ishan's innings, India defeated Sri Lanka by 124 runs to reach the Asian Games final. India will now face Pakistan in the gold medal match.
