CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: East Zone captain Ishan Kishan created history with a superb double century in the final of the Duleep Trophy 2026. Batting in an aggressive style against South Zone at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Ishan put his team in a very strong position.
This was Ishan Kishan’s first double century in a Duleep Trophy final. He also became the first Indian player to score a double century as captain in the final. In the history of the Duleep Trophy, since 1961, no captain had scored a double century in the final.
Kumar Kushagra also struck a century and gave Ishan Kishan excellent support from the other end. The young wicketkeeper-batter played an attacking innings of 101 runs. It is being described as the sixth century of his first-class career. The big partnership between Ishan and Kushagra quickly pushed East Zone’s score forward. Even after Kushagra was dismissed, Ishan held the innings together and went on to complete his double century.
East Zone crossed the 550-run mark after choosing to bat first in the final. The team had made an impressive start and ended the first day at 385/4, with Ishan Kishan unbeaten on 111 and Kumar Kushagra not out on 63. On the second day, both batters converted their innings into big scores. Powered by Ishan’s double century and Kushagra’s hundred, East Zone went past 550, putting South Zone’s bowlers under heavy pressure.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi was also in the spotlight on the first day of the final. The 15-year-old played a brisk innings of 44 off 37 balls, including five fours and one six. Although he could not make a big score, his aggressive batting drew plenty of attention in the early phase of the match. East Zone’s batting has so far put South Zone under pressure in the final. Ishan Kishan’s double century and Kushagra’s century have proved decisive in taking the team to a huge total.
