CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan will have to wait longer for his return to the field. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), while giving an injury update on October 26, 2026, said Ishan will not be able to play in the third match of the five-match T20 series against New Zealand either. According to the board, he is recovering well from a mild strain in the inner muscles of his right thigh, but has not yet regained match fitness.

Ishan sustained the injury during the first T20 match of the series against New Zealand. Because of this, he also missed the second match. He has now been kept out of the third T20, to be played in Wellington on October 27. The BCCI medical team is continuously monitoring his recovery.

The board has clarified that wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra will remain with the squad for the third T20 match. He was added to the team as Ishan’s replacement. In Ishan’s absence, young batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi was given a place in the playing XI for the second match.

The Indian team leads the five-match T20 series against New Zealand 2-0 after winning the first two matches. If India wins the third match, it will take an unassailable lead in the series. The team management is waiting for Ishan to regain full fitness rather than rushing him back onto the field.
