CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Tel Aviv/नई दिल्ली. Amid US President Donald Trump's disagreement over a new military campaign against Iran, Israel has demonstrated the strength of its air force.
According to reports citing US and Israeli officials, dozens of Israeli Air Force fighter jets flew close to Iran's border on Monday before returning. The military exercise is being seen as an attempt to send Iran a message about Israel's capability and to deter a possible attack.
According to the report, aerial refuelling aircraft were also part of the operation along with fighter jets. The aircraft travelled more than 800 miles from Israel, flying through Syrian and Iraqi airspace. Their route resembled the path of a possible military strike on Iran. However, instead of entering Iranian territory, the aircraft turned back from near the border.
US officials said Israel had informed Washington in advance about the operation and described it as a military exercise. Some US officials expressed concern that the purpose of the flight may also have been to provoke a response from Iran, although this has not been independently confirmed.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has raised concern over Iran's nuclear programme. The Trump administration, however, appears to be taking a cautious approach toward a new military confrontation.
Ahead of the October 27 elections in Israel, the military activity has brought fears of rising regional tensions back into discussion. For now, the exercise cannot be considered the beginning of an actual attack on Iran.
