CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Former ITI Bhopal trainee Arvind Namdev has made an inspiring journey from skilled artisan to successful entrepreneur through skill, hard work and innovation. Today, he has not only established his identity in the handloom and garment manufacturing sector, but is also training young people and connecting more than 50 women from disadvantaged sections with self-employment.
Arvind learned cutting and tailoring from his father. To gain technical knowledge in the field, he underwent training in the Sewing Technology trade at ITI Bhopal in 2016. With the guidance and encouragement of trainer Smriti Shrivastava, he chose entrepreneurship instead of employment. After starting stitching and boutique work on a small scale, he also served as guest faculty at the National Institute of Design, Bhopal.
With growing interest in textile weaving and handloom, Arvind organised weavers and established “N-Priyans Handloom Producer Private Limited” in 2024. With grant assistance of Rs 13 lakh received from the Weavers’ Service Centre, Indore, he began large-scale production of cotton, khadi cotton and other handloom products. In 2025, he also received grant assistance of Rs 60 lakh from the Handloom Department for charkhas, handloom machines and raw material to set up a handloom training and production centre.
Along with handloom products, his organisation is producing men’s kurta-pyjamas and jackets, women’s kurtis, pants, tops, saris, kantha work, handmade toys and other value-added products. At present, more than 50 women from disadvantaged sections are associated with the organisation and are earning self-employment. Arvind’s goal is to provide livelihoods to as many women as possible through cottage industry work from their homes.
Because of the excellent quality of his products, the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, gave Arvind opportunities to exhibit them in various cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Goa and Guwahati. The work of his company was also appreciated at the International Handloom Day programme held in Delhi. He was honoured on National Handloom Day in 2025 and 2026.
Arvind is currently training students in textile weaving at various institutions, including ITI Bhopal, NIFT, NID, CRISP and polytechnics. His success proves that with skill training, proper guidance and determination, young people can not only become self-reliant but also create employment opportunities for others.
