CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: If the refund has not yet reached your bank account after filing your income tax return, you should check a few important details instead of panicking. According to the Income Tax Department, the refund process begins after e-verification of the ITR, and normally it can take about 4 to 5 weeks for the refund to arrive.
First, visit the e-filing portal and check the ITR Status. If the return has not yet been e-verified, it is necessary to complete the process. According to the department, e-verification or submission of ITR-V must be done within 30 days of filing the return. A major reason for a refund getting stuck can be an error related to the bank account. The account in which the refund is to be received should be validated on the e-filing portal. The refund may fail if the name recorded in the bank account does not match the PAN, if the IFSC code is incorrect, or if the bank account is closed. In addition, the income, TDS and other details provided in the ITR should be matched with AIS and tax records. Also check e-mail and the e-filing portal for any notice from the department regarding discrepancies or information. If the refund was issued but failed, a Refund Reissue request can be made on the portal through the validated bank account.
