CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Bhopal: The modern infrastructure network being developed across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given fresh momentum to India’s development journey, according to the state government. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the rapid expansion of national highways, expressways, economic corridors and multi-modal connectivity projects is being carried out in line with the Prime Minister’s vision, with the aim of strengthening the economy, trade and investment.

The Jabalpur Outer Ring Road project, being developed in Madhya Pradesh by the National Highways Authority of India, is set to write a new chapter in the development of the Mahakaushal region. The project is being described as an important step towards strengthening road infrastructure in the state. Being built at an estimated cost of about Rs 3,540 crore, the 114-km project is expected to give a major push to connectivity, trade, tourism and industrial growth in Jabalpur and nearby areas.

Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh said the project would give a new direction to the development of the Jabalpur region. He said it would not only reduce the growing traffic pressure in the city but also strengthen regional trade, tourism, agriculture and industrial activity. The four-lane greenfield corridor is being built specifically to provide a smoother route for heavy and long-distance traffic moving to and from areas outside the city.

After completion, traffic pressure within Jabalpur city is expected to decline, and vehicles bound for Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra will no longer need to enter the city.

Major relief from traffic congestion

In recent years, rapid urban expansion in Jabalpur, rising industrial activity and an increase in passenger and goods vehicles have steadily added to traffic pressure. Traffic jams on major roads, longer travel time and extra fuel consumption had become common problems.

The Outer Ring Road project is being projected as a long-term solution to these challenges. Once operational, long-distance vehicles will move outside the city, reducing pressure on urban roads and making traffic movement easier and safer for residents.

Construction underway in five packages

For effective implementation, the project has been divided into five separate packages. These include the Barela-Manegaon, Manegaon-NH-45, NH-45-Kushner, Kushner-Amjhar and Amjhar-Barela stretches. Together, the five packages will create a strong external transport network around Jabalpur. With the development of these routes, key towns and rural areas in the region, including Jabalpur airport, will get better road connectivity. Different parts of the project are to be opened to traffic in phases this year and next year.

Farm produce to reach markets on time

The project is expected to directly benefit farmers and the rural economy. At present, farmers from Barela, Shahpura, Patan, Sihora and nearby areas face traffic jams and transport difficulties in taking their produce to mandis.

After the Outer Ring Road is completed, transportation of agricultural produce is expected to become faster, saving time and giving farmers better access to markets. Lower transport costs are also expected to have a positive impact on their income.

Local farmers believe that even with the operation of some initial stretches of the project, delays in travel have already begun to reduce, and that the benefits will become even more visible once the full project is operational.

Logistics and freight movement to gain speed

Jabalpur is an important trade centre of central India. After the Outer Ring Road is completed, goods vehicles will not have to enter the city, reducing both transport time and cost. Fuel savings are also expected, and the logistics network is likely to become more efficient. Experts believe the project will play an important role in establishing Jabalpur as a major logistics hub in central India in the future.

Big boost for tourism

Jabalpur is known not only as an industrial and administrative city but also as a major tourism destination. The marble gorges of Bhedaghat, the Dhuandhar waterfall, Gwari Ghat, the Narmada riverfront and the nearby Kanha National Park attract tourists from India and abroad.

The new ring road will make access to these tourist destinations faster and more convenient. Travel to major religious destinations such as Amarkantak is also expected to become easier than before. This is likely to increase tourism activity and local employment opportunities in the region.

Modern engineering landmark on the Narmada

The most striking and important component of the project is an approximately 750-metre-long extradosed bridge being built over the Narmada river. The bridge, being constructed with modern technology, is expected not only to improve transport but also to emerge as a distinct regional landmark in the future.

Built over the Narmada, regarded as the lifeline of Madhya Pradesh, the bridge is expected to stand as an example of the blend of modern development and cultural heritage.

Extensive infrastructure works

The project includes the construction of 14 major bridges, 37 minor bridges, 4 railway overbridges, 3 flyovers, 12 vehicular underpasses, 23 light vehicle underpasses, 2 elevated structures, 3 overpasses and around 332 culverts.

This infrastructure is expected not only to ensure smoother traffic flow but also to meet rising transport needs in the future.

New foundation for the development of Mahakaushal

The benefits of the Outer Ring Road will not remain limited to Jabalpur alone. Economic activity is expected to get a boost in many areas, including Barela, Manegaon, Shahpura, Sihora, Patan, Amjhar, Kushner, Adhartal and Garha. Connectivity with districts such as Mandla, Dindori, Narsinghpur and Katni is also expected to improve.

A better road network is likely to create opportunities for industries, warehouses, cold storage facilities, logistics parks and new investments, with the possibility of generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

Important step towards green development

Environmental protection has also been given priority in the project. Around 40 lakh metric tonnes of fly ash are being used in the construction work, which is being described as an excellent example of the reuse of industrial waste. In addition, efforts are being made to maintain environmental balance through plantation, green belt development and modern drainage systems.

A new chapter of development, connectivity and prosperity

The Jabalpur Outer Ring Road project is being described as more than a road construction project, and as a development journey that will shape the future of the Mahakaushal region. Through better connectivity, faster travel, lower fuel consumption, stronger logistics, rising tourism, industrial expansion and employment generation, the project is expected to write a new chapter in the region’s economic progress. In the coming years, this corridor is expected to establish a significant identity on the development map of central India.
