CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has spoken out in support of leaders of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). Expressing concern over the arrest of student leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, he said such action would not restore trust in the electoral process. His statement has triggered discussion in national politics.

Jagan Mohan Reddy raised questions over the arrests of CJP leaders. In a social media post, he said that in a democracy, it is essential to strengthen public trust in the electoral process. Referring to the arrest of CJP leaders, he said such action would not resolve the problem and could instead make the situation more complicated. He also stressed the need to restore confidence in the electoral system and review institutional processes. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke thanked Jagan Reddy for his support. The support has come at a time when CJP members are protesting over issues linked to the appointment process of the Chief Election Commissioner and the voters’ list.

Action followed a protest at Jantar Mantar. CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were arrested by police during a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The protesters’ issue was linked to the electoral process and the role of the Chief Election Commissioner. Police acted under legal provisions in the case, while the CJP described the arrests as improper and said it would continue its protest. After this development, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also issued a statement in support of the CJP leaders. Earlier, distance had been visible between the CJP and opposition parties, but after recent events some opposition leaders have expressed support for the movement.

Jagan Reddy’s statement is being viewed in the context of questions being raised by opposition leaders over electoral institutions and democratic processes. However, calling it a direct major political setback for the NDA at this stage remains a political assessment. Its actual impact will be determined by coming developments and the strategies of various parties. The CJP has so far presented itself as a pressure group. The organisation says it will continue to raise questions related to electoral transparency, youth issues and institutional accountability. Meanwhile, Jagan Reddy’s support could further widen the political discussion around the movement.
