CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: ‘Jailer 2’ sets ninth-day record, surpasses ‘Leo’ and ‘Jailer’
Mumbai. Superstar Rajinikanth’s film ‘Jailer 2’ is delivering a strong performance at the box office and continues to set new records. On the ninth day of its release, the film posted robust earnings, and it has been claimed that its global box office collection has surpassed the lifetime collections of Vijay’s ‘Leo’ and Rajinikanth’s first ‘Jailer’. The film’s success has once again brought Rajinikanth’s popularity in Tamil cinema into discussion.
According to early trade reports on the ninth-day box office collection, ‘Jailer 2’ collected around Rs 14.50 crore net in India on its ninth day of release. With this, its domestic net earnings are being reported at about Rs 348.85 crore, while its gross collection is said to be around Rs 408.55 crore. After adding nearly Rs 219.50 crore from overseas markets, the film’s worldwide gross collection is estimated to have reached about Rs 628 crore. These figures are based on early estimates and may change in the final numbers.
According to trade reports, Vijay’s ‘Leo’ had earned around Rs 605 crore worldwide, while Rajinikanth’s first ‘Jailer’ had done business of about Rs 604 crore. The estimated worldwide collection of ‘Jailer 2’ has crossed the figures of both these films. However, final box office figures will be needed for independent confirmation of the film’s collections and record.
The Tamil version is said to have made the biggest contribution to the film’s earnings. In addition, the Telugu and Hindi versions have also contributed to business. Rajinikanth’s popularity, the action sequences and the multistar cast are being counted among the main reasons for the film’s success.
All eyes are now on the film’s second weekend, which will determine how far its earnings can go. To reach the top position in the global earnings of Tamil films, it will have to continue doing strong business. For now, the box office journey of ‘Jailer 2’ remains a talking point for both audiences and the film industry.
