CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal : A tragic incident occurred in Jaipur’s Subhash Chowk area when a four-storey building, weakened by continuous rainfall, collapsed in the early hours of September 6, 2025. The dilapidated structure housed 19 tenants, primarily migrant workers from Bengal. At approximately 2:00 AM, the building gave way, trapping several residents under the debris.
Rescue operations were promptly initiated by the Civil Defence and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams. Despite their efforts, two individuals, identified as Prabhat (33) and his 6-year-old daughter Pihu, tragically lost their lives. Seven others sustained injuries, with one in critical condition. The remaining survivors were rescued and transported to SMS Hospital for medical attention.
Authorities attribute the collapse to the building’s deteriorated condition, exacerbated by recent heavy rains that compromised its structural integrity. This incident underscores the urgent need for safety audits of old and vulnerable buildings in the region.
The Jaipur administration has pledged to assess other similar structures to prevent future tragedies. Meanwhile, local residents have expressed concerns over the safety of other aging buildings in the vicinity.
