CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The grand inauguration of the Jal Sahelis’ water journey took place at the sacred Kanchana Ghat of the Betwa River in Ramraja Sarkar’s holy site. The objective of this journey is to promote water conservation, groundwater recharge, and community awareness about water crises in Bundelkhand. The District Collector of Niwari, Lokesh Jangid, flagged off the journey and extended his best wishes to the Jal Sahelis for a successful expedition.

Renowned water conservation activist, “Jal Purush” Rajendra Singh, highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating, “Today, our Jal Sahelis embark on a 300-km water journey from the premises of Ramraja Sarkar, educating villagers, children, and elders on the significance of water. If we have water, we will have respect, and if we have water, we will have prosperity.” He cited Rajasthan’s past water crisis, where people migrated due to scarcity, but with conservation efforts, young villagers are now returning.

Narayan Das Ahirwar, Member of the Water Resource Standing Committee and MP from Jalaun-Garautha-Bhognipur, emphasized that Bundelkhand is facing a severe water crisis. “Rivers here once flowed perennially, waterfalls thrived, but most water sources have now dried up. Farmers depend on rain and canals for irrigation, but erratic rainfall is impacting agriculture. Despite these challenges, the Jal Sahelis in their blue sarees are dedicated to making Bundelkhand water-rich.”

Sanjay Singh, Secretary of Parmarth Samaj Sevi Sansthan, expressed joy over this historic event, stating that the 18-day journey will begin from Orchha’s Kanchana Ghat and conclude at Jatashankar Dham in Chhatarpur. Throughout the journey, Jal Sahelis will visit villages, spreading awareness about water conservation and its management.

Indira Khurana, Chairperson of the Himalayan Basin River, praised the efforts of the Jal Sahelis, specifically acknowledging the work of the first Jal Saheli, Sirkunwar. NABARD General Manager Kamar Javed emphasized that this journey will help highlight the importance of groundwater and educate villages on water conservation techniques, proving highly beneficial for Bundelkhand.

Vishwadeep Ghosh, Director of Water for People, stated that the Jal Sahelis are not just spreading awareness about water but are also introducing modern water management techniques to villages. He expressed hope that this journey would evolve into a strong water conservation movement in the region.

The event was conducted by social worker Muhammad Naim. The occasion was graced by prominent personalities, including Orchha Municipal Council President Shishupal, Vice President Anil Yadav, senior social worker Ramchandra Shukla, journalist Anil Sharma, and thousands of Jal Sahelis.
