CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: England’s legendary fast bowler Sir James Anderson’s 25-year journey with his childhood favourite club Lancashire is set to come to an end. The club has decided not to extend his contract for the 2027 season. After the decision, Anderson shared an emotional message on social media, expressing his disappointment. He said playing for Lancashire was like a childhood dream coming true, but if the decision had been in his hands, this journey would not have ended in this manner.

Anderson said in his message that he had supported Lancashire since childhood. Playing for the club for 25 years had been a matter of pride for him. He described the experience of walking out at Old Trafford as special and included captaining the side among the memorable moments of his career. He also wished the team’s players and supporters well for the future.

Why did the club not extend the contract? According to Lancashire’s new director of cricket Paul Farbrace, the club wants to restructure its men’s team. The target is to secure promotion from Division Two of the County Championship and mount a challenge to win the Division One title over the next three to four years. As part of this plan, the decision was taken not to extend Anderson’s contract for the 2027 season.

A farewell despite outstanding performances: The 44-year-old Anderson captained Lancashire in the 2026 season and took 50 wickets in the County Championship. For the club, he took 443 wickets in 112 first-class matches. Anderson, who took 704 wickets in 188 Test matches for England, retired from international cricket in July 2024.

Will Anderson retire from cricket as well? For now, Anderson has not made clear whether he will stop playing altogether or take the field for another club. His separation from Lancashire is being seen as a new turn in his cricket career.
