CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Jamshedpur. Police have intensified the investigation after a major robbery at Canara Bank in Golmuri, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Armed criminals held bank employees and the security guard hostage and looted about Rs 42 lakh in cash and nearly 23 kg of gold. After the incident, police formed a 20-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case.
According to police, about five armed criminals entered the bank shortly after it opened. They took the employees under their control and forced them at gunpoint to open the bank chest. They then fled with packets of cash and gold. The gold was kept in the bank in the form of jewellery pledged by customers.
During the investigation, police began examining the bank’s CCTV footage and other technical evidence. A forensic team also collected necessary evidence from the scene. According to police, the footage is being analysed to identify the suspects and raids are being carried out at possible hideouts.
Police have released photographs of the absconding suspects to gather information about them and have announced a reward for informants. The investigation also includes lapses found in the bank’s security arrangements. Police said the current priority is to identify and arrest the accused and recover the looted cash and gold.
