Jan Suraaj makes major move ahead of Bihar MLC elections

CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Political activity has intensified in Bihar ahead of elections to eight seats of the Legislative Council. Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party has begun preparations to field candidates on all eight seats. The party’s decision is being seen as a strategy to expand its political base in Bihar.

The Legislative Council seats going to polls include four teachers’ constituencies and four graduates’ constituencies. Jan Suraaj has stepped up discussions on potential candidates for different regions. According to reports, the party has started working on probable names for teachers’ constituencies such as Patna, Saran, Tirhut and Kosi. Dr Divya Jyoti’s name is also being discussed for the Patna teachers’ seat.

The election is also important for Prashant Kishor because Jan Suraaj could not achieve the expected success in the Assembly elections. The party is now trying to strengthen its organisation among teachers, graduates and different social groups.

Jan Suraaj claims it will emphasise candidate selection and political representation differently from traditional political parties. In this context, the party’s performance in the MLC elections could be significant in determining the future direction of its role in Bihar politics.
