CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil has announced a fresh protest in Mumbai, intensifying his campaign for the implementation of reservation-related demands. He is scheduled to lead a peaceful march towards Mumbai and hold an indefinite hunger strike at Azad Maidan from September 19.
Jarange has appealed to members of the Maratha community to participate in the mobilisation in large numbers. He has also made a special appeal to women, asking them to visit the residences of Lata Shinde, wife of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He suggested that women conduct a traditional haldi-kumkum programme and raise the demand for Maratha reservation.
The planned Mumbai agitation comes after Jarange’s ongoing hunger strike and his criticism of the state government over pending demands. He has maintained that the agitation will continue until the community’s demands, including issues related to Kunbi certificates, are addressed.
The proposed march has added fresh political pressure on the Maharashtra government. Authorities are expected to closely monitor the situation as the mobilisation moves towards Mumbai. The Bombay High Court has also declined to prohibit Jarange from entering Mumbai, while stressing the importance of maintaining law and order during the protest.
