CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Manoj Jarange Patil, who has been agitating for Maratha reservation, has stepped up preparations to move towards Mumbai. Accusing the government of not taking adequate action on the demands, Jarange has announced that the agitation will be taken forward. Meanwhile, an important meeting of supporters has been called at 12 noon on September 12, where the future strategy for the Mumbai protest will be discussed.
Jarange Patil has said he wants to hold the agitation with his supporters at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. Permission has been sought for this, and he has expressed hope that the government will grant approval. He has also instructed supporters to remain prepared for the protest.
In the matter, the Bombay High Court has also refused to issue a prohibitory order to stop Jarange from coming to Mumbai. Referring to the constitutional right to peaceful protest, the court said maintaining law and order is the responsibility of the state government. It also asked that Jarange’s health be monitored and medical assistance be provided if needed.
A deadlock continues between the Maharashtra government and the protesters over Jarange’s demands. The government claims action has already been taken on several demands, while Jarange remains firm on continuing the agitation over his key demands. The picture of the Mumbai protest is now expected to become clearer after the September 12 meeting.
