CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil has ended his 20-day hunger strike after discussions with a Maharashtra government delegation. He has given the state government three months to consider and act on his key demands related to Maratha reservation.
A delegation led by Maharashtra minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil met Jarange during his agitation in Beed district. Following the discussions, Jarange agreed to call off the fast and asked supporters who had gathered for the planned Mumbai march to return home.
Among the key issues are demands concerning Kunbi certificates and access to Other Backward Class (OBC) reservation benefits for eligible members of the Maratha community. Jarange has also sought recognition of historical records, including the Hyderabad, Satara and Aundh Gazettes, for establishing Kunbi lineage.
The government delegation assured Jarange that his demands would be considered within the three-month period. Reports said discussions also covered the existing records and the process for issuing Kunbi certificates.
Jarange has indicated that if the government does not act within the stipulated period, he could resume the agitation and take the protest to Mumbai. The development temporarily eases the immediate confrontation while keeping the Maratha reservation issue active in Maharashtra’s political and administrative discourse.
