CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Noted writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar has shared his views on religion, faith and belief in God. In a recent conversation, he said religion can provide emotional support to a person during difficult times, but the comfort derived from a belief does not prove that the belief is true.
To explain his point, Javed Akhtar cited the example of businessman Elon Musk. He said that if a person believes Elon Musk is his brother and is going to send him billions of dollars next month, that imagination may give him a sense of happiness and security. But merely believing something does not make it real.
Javed Akhtar also said most people grow up following the religion into which they are born. In this context, he claimed that around 99 percent of people die in the same religion in which they were born.
He urged people to examine their beliefs on the basis of reason and independent thinking. He also said it is not correct to describe different religions as the same, because their beliefs and ideas are different. Javed Akhtar has long publicly expressed his views on subjects such as religion, reason and atheism.
