CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: JEE Advanced 2026: 75% of candidates answered one Physics question incorrectly
New Delhi. Question-wise data from the country’s prestigious engineering entrance examination, JEE Advanced 2026, has shown that a large number of candidates gave incorrect answers to several questions in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. According to the official report of the Joint Implementation Committee (JIC), 74.84% of candidates answered one question in Physics Paper-2 incorrectly. The figure underlines the challenge of choosing the correct answer and avoiding negative marking in the examination.
The Physics question caused the most confusion. According to the report, 74.84% of candidates gave the wrong answer to Question No. 14 in Physics Paper-2, while only 10.59% of students did not attempt the question. In Physics Paper-1, Question No. 9 recorded incorrect answers from 69.01% of candidates, while Question No. 13 in Paper-2 saw 67.79% incorrect responses.
Mistakes were also recorded in Mathematics and Chemistry. In Mathematics Paper-2, 67.24% of candidates answered Question No. 11 incorrectly, 66.49% gave wrong answers to Question No. 14, and 66.01% answered Question No. 18 incorrectly. In Chemistry, Question No. 10 in Paper-1 recorded 67.06% incorrect answers, while Question No. 13 in Paper-2 saw 66.51% wrong responses. This indicates that candidates faced difficulty while solving some questions across all three subjects.
Important signals for preparation for upcoming examinations. For experts and students, such figures can be useful in assessing question selection, conceptual understanding and time management. However, the percentage of incorrect answers alone does not prove that a question was necessarily difficult or identify the reason behind the mistakes. For upcoming JEE candidates, it is important to analyse mock tests along with regular practice, identify the reasons for errors, and answer carefully in questions carrying negative marking. Success in the examination depends not only on solving more questions, but also on choosing the right questions and giving accurate answers.
