CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Addressing a press conference, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee President Jitu Patwari criticized the Vice President’s recent comments on Madhya Pradesh’s former Chief Minister and current Union Agriculture Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The Vice President’s remarks, accusing Chouhan of lying, have raised serious concerns for both the state and the nation. Patwari said, “If there is one politician known for lying, it is Shivraj Singh Chouhan. A simple Google search will reveal his name among the most untruthful leaders. As the opposition, I tried to discuss farmers’ issues with him, but he chose to ignore me. This is not a personal insult; it is an insult to the democratic system.”
Patwari further highlighted that the Vice President’s questioning of Chouhan’s governance reflects the inefficiency in addressing farmers’ demands for fair crop prices. He pointed out Chouhan’s false claim in Parliament that farmers receive double the minimum support price (MSP) under the Modi government. “Last year, Chouhan promised ₹3,100 for paddy and ₹2,700 for wheat but failed to deliver. Farmers are now forced to sell paddy at only ₹2,300. The state government is neglecting pressing issues like unpaid dues to rice mill associations and locking of mills due to financial constraints,” he added.
Patwari demanded Chouhan’s resignation, citing his failure to fulfill promises and prioritizing foreign trips over addressing state issues. He criticized Chouhan’s lavish lifestyle and said, “The Chief Minister is misusing funds and burdening the state with debt. It’s time for him to step down.”
Patwari also spoke on the recent protests in Madhya Pradesh regarding incidents in Bangladesh involving attacks on Hindu minorities. He stated, “The Congress ideology has always supported protecting minorities, regardless of their location. Our MP, Imran Masood, has submitted a notice in Parliament demanding that the government exert diplomatic pressure on Bangladesh to ensure the safety of Hindu and other minority communities. Diplomatic and trade measures should be employed, and Indian trains operating in Bangladesh should be halted if necessary.”
Patwari accused the Modi government and the Ministry of External Affairs of failing in their diplomatic efforts to protect the interests of minorities. He also condemned the silence on similar incidents in countries like Pakistan, Canada, and the US, asserting that it reflects the failure of India’s foreign policy. He concluded by demanding immediate diplomatic actions to ensure the safety and security of minorities in neighboring countries.
