CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Bhopal Division of West Central Railway organized a joint full-scale exercise during the year 2025–26 to strengthen preparedness for emergency situations such as train accidents. A comprehensive accident relief and rescue drill was successfully conducted at Sukhisevania Railway Station under the joint supervision of the Bhopal Railway Division, 11th Battalion RPSF/RPF, and NDRF Bhopal.

The exercise saw active participation from railway officials and staff under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Bhopal, Pankaj Tyagi. The team led by Deputy Commandant Anil Pal of the 11th Battalion RPSF/RPF played a key operational role, while Commandant Kamalnath Dhurve from RPSF Bhopal was present with his team. From the West Central Railway Headquarters, Jabalpur, Chief Motive Power Engineer R.S. Vika and DCS/Chief Security Officer (Mechanical) also attended the drill.

A simulated accident scenario was created involving three train coaches—two sleeper coaches and one general coach—depicting a derailed train. Railway Cultural Academy artists and Civil Defence volunteers acted as injured and casualty passengers to create a realistic environment.

The drill began when the duty loco pilot and train guard informed the Station Manager about the accident. Railway control was immediately notified, and the Accident Relief Medical Van from Bhopal was dispatched to the site. Relevant railway departments and the district administration were also informed. Civil administration officials, police, fire brigade, 108 ambulance service, local hospital doctors, and paramedical staff reached the site promptly.

Rescue teams collaborated to safely evacuate injured passengers from the coaches, provide first aid, and transport them via stretcher to nearby hospitals, including People’s Hospital, using ambulances. During the exercise, the Divisional Railway Manager inspected RPSF/RPF equipment and the railway’s accident relief van. The entire drill was also recorded using drone cameras.

The joint accident relief and rescue exercise was successfully completed, enhancing emergency preparedness and coordination among railway and civil agencies.
