CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Australia defeated Zimbabwe by one wicket in a thrilling third ODI played in Harare. With the win, Australia completed a 3-0 clean sweep of Zimbabwe in the three-match ODI series.
Batting first, Zimbabwe scored 271 runs in 50 overs. Captain Sikandar Raza made an unbeaten 81, while Craig Ervine scored 59 and Innocent Kaia contributed 55.
Australia did not start well in the chase. Travis Head was dismissed for 6 and captain Mitchell Marsh for 8. Josh Inglis then kept the team in the contest with a superb innings of 103 off 102 balls. He hit 11 fours in his knock. However, after Inglis was dismissed, Australia came under pressure and had lost nine wickets.
Australia needed 9 runs to win in the final over. Nathan Ellis hit a six off the first ball and, with Spencer Johnson, took the side close to the target. Ellis remained unbeaten on 36 and scored the winning run off the fifth ball of the final over to take Australia to 272/9.
Ellis was effective with the ball as well, taking three wickets for 50 runs. For Zimbabwe, Brad Evans took four wickets but could not stop Australia in the closing moments. Inglis’s century and Ellis’s unbeaten innings gave Australia an extremely dramatic victory.
