CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities, the South Best Zone Inter-University Judo Men’s Competition 2024-25 was held at the LNCT University Auditorium, Kolar Road, Bhopal. The event witnessed thrilling matches in various weight categories:
In the -90 kg men’s category, Ayush Dutt from BU Bhopal won the gold medal, Arjun A.R. from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, claimed silver, while Praveen Kumar from BHEL University, Chennai, and Ramesh Bhai Choudhary from Swarnim Gujarat University jointly secured bronze medals.
In the -60 kg men’s category, Akash from SRM University, Gujarat, bagged the gold medal, Gaurav Pratham from the University of Mumbai won silver, and Sagar Jadhav from Sant Gadge University, along with Om Himagre from SRTM Nanded, jointly earned bronze medals.
In the +100 kg men’s category, Janak Lohar from Parul University clinched the gold medal, Yash Yadav from the University of Rajasthan secured silver, while Aditya from Savitribai Phule University and Ankush from RTM jointly won bronze medals.
The medal ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including Kapil Parmar (Paralympian and bronze medalist in Para Olympic Judo), Dr. Nalini Mishra (Dean, LNCT Medical College), Ajit Soni (Director), Sunaina Chaturvedi (Sports Editor, News World), Dr. A.K. Chaudhary (Medical Director, JK Hospital), Sarla Menon (Medical Superintendent, JK Hospital), and Pankaj Jain (Sports Director, LNCT University). These dignitaries presented medals to the winning athletes.
Kapil Parmar, a proud Paralympian from Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, and the first Indian to win a bronze in judo at the Paralympics, expressed his admiration for the event during his address. He stated that the South Best Zone Inter-University Judo Competition at LNCT University gave him an Olympic-like feeling. He praised the fairness of the competition, which featured live reviews and experienced national and international referees—a first for any All India University competition. He congratulated LNCT University for its impartial and successful organization of the event.
