CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The district administrations of Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Baghpat have ordered the closure of schools, colleges, universities, and technical institutions until August 12 in view of the heavy movement of devotees during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. The decision has been taken to ensure the safety of students and staff, facilitate smooth traffic management, and maintain law and order as lakhs of Kanwariyas travel through key routes in western Uttar Pradesh. Scheduled examinations, however, will continue as per the previously announced timetable.
Educational institutions affiliated with state boards, CBSE, ICSE, madrasas, and private universities have been directed to comply with the closure order. Some schools have announced online classes to minimise academic disruption during the temporary shutdown. Authorities have also imposed traffic diversions and enhanced security measures across major pilgrimage routes to manage the expected influx of devotees until the conclusion of the yatra on Shravan Shivratri.
Officials have appealed to parents, students, and commuters to follow district advisories and avoid unnecessary travel on designated Kanwar routes. The administration stated that the precautionary measures are aimed at ensuring public safety while facilitating the smooth conduct of one of North India's largest annual religious pilgrimages. Educational institutions are expected to resume normal operations after August 12, subject to further administrative review.
