CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi: The political controversy over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Jharkhand has intensified. Rajya Sabha MP and senior advocate Kapil Sibal has questioned the SIR process and sought the Supreme Court’s intervention. He alleged that attempts are being made to delete names from the voter list on a large scale, and that the impact could fall particularly on Muslim voters.
Citing a media report on social media platform X, Sibal said that in Jharkhand’s Godda district, some BJP agents were allegedly demanding the deletion of names of voters from the minority community. The report also said booth-level officers had raised concerns in this regard. However, the allegations are based on claims by the parties concerned, and no final official conclusion has yet emerged on them.
Kapil Sibal described the SIR issue as an “exclusion from politics” and alleged that changes in the voter list could be an attempt to influence the electoral process. He appealed to the Supreme Court to stop the alleged large-scale deletion of names.
Sibal’s remarks come at a time when opposition parties have been repeatedly questioning the Election Commission’s SIR process. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi have also recently made serious allegations against the Election Commission and described alleged irregularities in the voter list as a matter of concern for the democratic process.
