CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies, Bhopal: After an increase in the prices of Nandini milk and curd in Karnataka, travel on government buses is also likely to become costlier. The state government is considering raising fares for public transport buses. Transport Minister Byrathi Suresh has called a meeting with senior officials of all four state transport corporations in Bengaluru on Tuesday. Fare revision and the proposed rate of increase will be discussed at the meeting.

According to the transport minister, the four transport corporations in the state have a combined loss of about Rs 9,000 crore. The corporations are losing around Rs 2,000 crore every year. Financial pressure has been steadily increasing due to rising diesel prices, employees’ salaries, bus maintenance and other operational expenses. The government says the need to raise fares is being considered to improve the financial position of the corporations.

The fare regulatory committee has recommended an increase of 45 percent for the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and up to 28 percent for the other three transport corporations. However, the government has not yet given final approval to these recommendations.

Earlier, in January 2025, government bus fares in Karnataka were increased by 15 percent. Meanwhile, an increase of Rs 8 per litre in the price of Nandini milk has come into effect from November 1. In such a situation, if bus fares are increased, the monthly expenses of ordinary passengers, employees and students may be affected further.
