CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Bengaluru. The Dr. Kasturirangan Trust has been launched with the aim of carrying forward the legacy of India’s eminent scientist Dr. K. Kasturirangan and encouraging research and innovation in the country. The trust’s inaugural ceremony was held in Bengaluru on October 25, 2026. Its objective is to provide opportunities to young researchers and promote ideas that can help solve real problems faced by society.
The trust will focus on four key areas: space and technology, education, sustainable development and public policy. Under this, it plans to offer fellowships, scholarships and research grants, organise conferences, encourage book writing and the compilation of scientific material, and collaborate with institutions in India and abroad.
The trust’s first initiative is the “Dr. Kasturirangan 2027 Fellowship”. Under this, six PhD and post-doctoral researchers will be selected. Candidates’ research must be linked to more than one of the trust’s four priority areas and should also have the possibility of practical application. Each selected researcher will receive one-time assistance of Rs 4 lakh for research expenses. In addition, they will receive guidance, an opportunity to present their research at two workshops in a year, and a platform to connect with other researchers.
For the first year, nominations for the fellowship will be accepted from October 27 to December 31, 2026. Candidates must have submitted their PhD thesis between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2026. In the initial phase, nominations will be made through a group of eminent persons or leading universities. The announcement of the first group of selected researchers is proposed for April 25, 2027.
The trust aims to strengthen knowledge-based solutions in India and future scientific leadership by providing researchers with resources and collaboration.
