CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Kathmandu District Administration has imposed a ban on holding a rally in support of the monarchy. The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) had scheduled a rally at Bhrikuti Mandap on Tuesday and had called on supporters from across the country to gather in Kathmandu. However, a day before the rally, on Monday, the Kathmandu District Administration issued a letter stating that permission would not be granted to hold the rally in the city center due to security concerns.

An email from the Assistant Chief District Officer conveyed the decision to prohibit the event. RPP President Rajendra Lingden said that after the sudden imposition of the ban, party leaders were in talks with the district administration. He added that discussions were underway to move the rally venue outside the main city area.

Lingden mentioned that the Balkhu Ground has been proposed as an alternative to Bhrikuti Mandap, though official permission has not yet been granted. An emergency meeting of the RPP has been convened to discuss alternative locations for the rally. Lingden emphasized that the party does not wish for any untoward incidents and is therefore open to holding the rally at a different location.

Assistant Chief District Officer Bhandari explained that the site originally proposed for the pro-monarchy rally is the same area where anti-monarchy groups have announced a protest. Additionally, an ongoing teachers’ movement is also taking place nearby, which has prompted the administration to restrict the pro-monarchy gathering due to security concerns.
