CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: Kauvery Hospital, based in Salem, Tamil Nadu, has launched the ‘Padiyeru Paati’ campaign to make elderly women aware of knee pain and difficulties in mobility. The initiative aims to encourage women aged 55 years and above to seek timely medical advice, take care of their knee health and lead active and independent lives. The hospital has launched the campaign based on the experience of its earlier ‘Odi Vilayadu Thatha’ programme, which focused on knee and mobility-related problems among elderly men.
Do not treat knee pain as a normal part of ageing, hospital experts said. According to the hospital’s specialists, degeneration in the knee joint with advancing age can make walking, climbing stairs, rising from a chair and carrying out daily activities difficult. Persistent pain, stiffness or difficulty in walking should not be ignored merely as an effect of age. Timely examination and appropriate treatment can improve mobility in many patients.
A team of specialists will provide guidance under the campaign. Senior orthopaedic specialists at the hospital, Dr. S. Arun, Dr. Manivannan, Dr. Rajsirish Bellal Sridharan and Dr. N. Karthik Kumar, are part of the initiative. The specialists will assess women’s problems and provide information on suitable treatment options. Patients who are medically in need will also be informed about advanced treatment options, including knee replacement with the assistance of robotic technology.
The hospital also emphasised robotic technology and rehabilitation. VELYS robotic technology is used at the hospital for knee replacement. The technology assists the surgeon in planning and performing the operation by providing real-time information related to the structure of the patient’s knee. Physiotherapy and rehabilitation have also been described as important along with treatment.
The campaign is specifically for women aged 55 years and above. Women facing knee pain, stiffness or difficulty in movement can register through the campaign’s QR code and take an appointment for consultation.
