CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the development of the railways’ technical capabilities is continuously progressing. In this context, a 13-member media team from Bhopal visited RDSO (Research Designs and Standards Organization) in Lucknow today. This visit was organized under the leadership of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) offices in Lucknow and Bhopal.
During an interaction with the media, Uday Borwankar, Director General of RDSO, explained that RDSO is collaborating with IITs and engineering colleges to develop new designs and innovations. He stated that with the introduction of Kavach technology, unsafe journeys have become safer, and railway accidents have decreased. He also highlighted the introduction of bio-toilets, which have reduced corrosion on railway tracks, and now bio-toilets are being used on all trains.
One of the key achievements of RDSO includes the development of world-class braking systems for high-speed trains like Tejas and Vande Bharat. Shamim Ahmed, Executive Director (Administration) of RDSO, provided this information, emphasizing that the braking systems of these trains meet the latest standards, ensuring passenger safety.
Among RDSO’s most significant achievements is the “Kavach” technology, which helps prevent railway accidents under the Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system. Madhup Srivastava, Director of RDSO Lucknow, mentioned that work is underway to further improve communication between stations through Kavach 4.0, and it is currently being tested at the zonal level of the railways.
During the visit, the media team was given insights into the air brake laboratory, signal lab, and modern indigenous rail signaling technologies. Director Madhup Srivastava shed light on the technical features of Kavach 4.0, while Shamim Ahmed elaborated on the braking systems of Tejas and Vande Bharat trains.
Among the key officials present were Rupesh Kohli, Executive Director (Testing), Vijay Prakash, Joint Director (Testing Lab), Naveen Sharma, Director (Publications), and Dr. Veena, Executive Director of RDSO Lucknow. Dr. Veena informed that RDSO is also working on psychoanalytical testing to assess the emotional stability and efficiency of pilots.
