CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Conditions have worsened in Kerala amid continuous rain, with landslides, falling debris and flash floods reported from several areas. Five people have died so far in these incidents, while two people are reported missing. Rain-related accidents have been reported from Malappuram, Idukki and Kottayam districts.
In Malappuram, a group of five people who had gone to bathe in a river on Sunday evening was swept away by a sudden surge in the water level and strong currents. One person was rescued, while the bodies of two people were recovered and two others are still missing. In Kottayam, a woman died after being caught in a landslide, while two people lost their lives in Idukki after debris fell.
The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain in parts of Kerala for the next four days. The rain alert for Idukki and Kottayam has been upgraded to orange. The administration has directed officials to step up monitoring in vulnerable areas and move people to safer places if required.
Meanwhile, several areas of Uttar Pradesh are also facing waterlogging and flood-like conditions due to heavy rain. Reports said normal life has been affected by rain in Varanasi and Lakhimpur Kheri. In Gujarat too, rain has led to waterlogging in low-lying areas of several cities, including Ahmedabad.
