CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Khelo India Para Games 2025 Set to Begin, Harvinder Singh Excited for the Event
The second edition of Khelo India Para Games (KIPG 2025) is set to begin on Thursday, March 20, and 2024 Paralympic gold medalist archer Harvinder Singh is highly enthusiastic about it. The 34-year-old athlete believes that KIPG has introduced international-level competition standards and has become a major platform for young athletes to showcase their talent. Harvinder praised the format and selection process of the Khelo India Para Games, highlighting how it boosts the performance of para-athletes across India.
Speaking to SAI Media, Harvinder said,
“The top 16 athletes at the national level qualify for the Khelo India Para Games. This system motivates every athlete to aim for a medal at the national level. Even if an athlete fails to win a medal, they still strive to secure a spot in the top 16 to qualify for KIPG. Such a process encourages athletes to push their limits and perform at their best. This being the second edition of KIPG, it is exciting to see para sports growing in India.”
Harvinder Singh’s Remarkable Achievements
Harvinder secured first place in the ranking round and went on to win gold at the inaugural Khelo India Para Games held in December 2023. Following his impressive performance, he became a double Olympic medalist in Paris last year, including a gold medal in the Individual Recurve Open event, the same category in which he had won bronze at the Tokyo Paralympics.
As he gears up for KIPG 2025, Harvinder shared why this tournament is setting a new benchmark for sports events in India.
KIPG: Setting International Standards in India
Expressing his excitement, Harvinder said:
“I am extremely happy that a tournament of this caliber is being organized. When I competed in the last KIPG, it felt like an international-level event. The setup, schedule, and arrangements were of the highest quality. That moment assured me that India is capable of hosting any major international tournament. This year, I expect the same standards, and I am eager to return to the field.”
India’s Growing Recognition in Para Sports
Recently, New Delhi hosted the World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2025, and in August 2025, the city will also host the World Para Athletics Championships. Harvinder emphasized that the rise in domestic tournaments and the government’s continuous support for para sports have contributed to creating a more inclusive society.
He stated:
“The government’s top initiatives are now focusing on para sports. Private organizations are also showing increased interest in supporting para-athletes. Society is becoming more inclusive, and India is now recognizing and embracing para sports and our performances. The growing participation in KIPG 2025 is a clear indicator of India’s overall progress in the sports sector.”
