CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Seoul. Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and a senior official, has issued a strong warning to South Korea. She said that if the South Korean military fires live rounds at North Korean soldiers in the border area instead of warning shots, North Korean border units will respond immediately.
The statement came after landmine explosions in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on September 21. According to the South Korean military, three of its soldiers were injured in the explosions. In a joint investigation, South Korea and the United Nations Command also recovered an active North Korean landmine in the area. Based on the preliminary investigation, South Korea has said the explosions were highly likely caused by mines laid by North Korea and described the incident as a violation of the armistice agreement. The United Nations Command has also confirmed, on the basis of its investigation, that the armistice agreement was violated.
North Korea has rejected the allegations, calling South Korea’s investigation fabricated. Kim Yo Jong said North Korean soldiers were carrying out security-related work in the border area and had not crossed the border. She warned that any military action in the border area could have serious consequences.
The developments are expected to further strain already tense relations between the two Koreas. South Korea has also demanded that North Korea immediately stop fortification-related activities along the border.
