CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A controversy has emerged over the National Film Award given to a biography of renowned singer and actor Kishore Kumar. A petition filed in the Patna High Court has sought cancellation of the honour given to ‘Kishore Kumar: The Ultimate Biography’ in the ‘Best Book on Cinema’ category at the 70th National Film Awards. The book has been written by Anirudha Bhattacharjee and Parthiv Dhar and published by HarperCollins. It received the award in 2024 under the 70th National Film Awards. The award ceremony was held on October 8, 2024, at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
The petition has been filed by Patna-based Hindi writer and literary critic Anant Prasad Sinha. He has claimed that the prescribed eligibility and selection guidelines for the award were not followed. He has also questioned how a biography of Kishore Kumar was selected in the category of best book on Indian cinema. The matter was heard in the court of Justice Ajit Kumar. The High Court has sought responses from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the National Film Development Corporation. On behalf of the central government, three weeks’ time has been sought to file a response. The next hearing is reported to be scheduled for October 8. The court has not yet passed any final order cancelling the award.
