Virat Kohli created history with a superb batting display in the first ODI between India and New Zealand in Auckland. He broke a major record held by Sachin Tendulkar, becoming the highest run-scorer in ODI cricket while chasing targets. Kohli played an attacking innings of 74 off 51 balls, including 13 fours and one six. On the strength of his performance, India defeated New Zealand by five wickets in the rain-affected match to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Kohli now has 8,741 runs in ODI run chases, while Sachin Tendulkar had scored 8,720. Rohit Sharma is third on the list with 6,801 runs. Rohit also registered an unwanted record in the match. He was dismissed without opening his account. It was the 17th duck of his ODI career and the first time in three years that he was out for a duck in this format.

An interesting moment in the match was fast bowler Arshdeep Singh’s dance celebration after taking a wicket. He performed special dance steps after dismissing New Zealand’s Kyle Jamieson. Arshdeep later said the celebration was for his girlfriend Samreen Kaur. He said the two often do these dance steps to lift each other’s mood.

Arshdeep played an important role in India’s win in this match by taking four wickets.
