CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: In Bhopal district, under the Ksheer Dhara Scheme, 76 villages have been selected to increase milk production and enhance the income of livestock farmers. Through this scheme, the selected villages will be developed and established as Ksheer Dhara Villages.
Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry, Abhijeet Shukla, stated that under the Ksheer Dhara Village Scheme, special focus will be given to breed improvement, strengthening animal health services, and providing balanced nutrition and feed in the selected villages. Livestock farmers will also be made familiar with modern dairy production techniques and encouraged to adopt them, which will help increase milk production.
The primary objective of the scheme is to enhance milk production at the village level and strengthen the economic condition of livestock farmers. Through this initiative, livestock rearing in rural areas will be developed as a profitable business.
Under the scheme, all villages in the district will be gradually developed as Ksheer Dhara Villages over the next three years. Based on performance, villages will be classified:
First category – villages achieving more than 70% of targets
Second category – villages achieving 50–70% of targets
Third category – villages achieving less than 50% of targets
In the first-year action plan, targets have been set for the selected villages, including conception through high-quality breeds, 100% vaccination, and animal tagging. To achieve high-quality breed conception, activities such as culling low-quality bulls and organizing barren animal camps will be conducted. Farmers will be encouraged to produce green fodder, and mini-kits of fodder seeds will also be distributed.
The district administration and Animal Husbandry Department have already initiated the necessary actions to implement the scheme effectively. This initiative is expected to increase milk production, improve farmers’ income, and strengthen the rural economy in the district.
