East Zone’s young wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra produced an impressive batting display in the final of the Duleep Trophy 2026, scoring a century against South Zone at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Batting in an aggressive style, Kushagra helped put his team in a strong position.
Kumar Kushagra scored 101 runs off 132 balls. His innings included eight fours and five sixes. This was the sixth century of his first-class cricket career. He came in to bat at No. 6 for East Zone and accelerated his innings on the second day.
Kushagra had also batted well on the opening day of the final. He remained unbeaten on 63 at stumps, sharing an important fifth-wicket partnership with captain Ishan Kishan. East Zone had posted a strong 385/4 on the first day, with Ishan Kishan unbeaten on 111.
Kumar Kushagra is part of the same East Zone team that also includes 15-year-old cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi. On the first day of the final, Vaibhav also played a brisk innings, scoring 44 runs. He drew attention for his attacking shots against Mohammad Siraj.
East Zone’s batters have performed strongly in the final. After captain Ishan Kishan’s century, Kushagra also reached three figures to further strengthen the team’s position. Kushagra’s innings clearly reflected attacking batting, and he hit particularly big shots against the spin bowlers.
Kushagra’s performance has come at a time when young batters in domestic cricket are under constant attention. A century in a major tournament such as the Duleep Trophy is being regarded as an important achievement for his career.
