New Delhi. Indian students pursuing medical education in Kyrgyzstan are increasingly concerned after the government there began a mandatory state accreditation process for medical universities and colleges. According to the Indian Embassy, 13 medical institutions have failed to clear the process. These include Avicenna International Medical University, Adam University, Royal Metropolitan University, Altamimi International University, International Medical University and Osh International Medical University, among others.
Under Kyrgyzstan’s rules, institutions that do not obtain state accreditation may face suspension of their licences. However, the country’s Ministry of Health has put in place arrangements to transfer affected students to accredited medical institutions.
For Indian students, the biggest question is whether their studies, clinical training and internship after transfer will comply with the rules prescribed for recognition in India. According to the National Medical Commission, students obtaining medical degrees from abroad must fulfil the prescribed requirements related to curriculum, duration and internship.
The Indian Embassy has advised students to thoroughly check the accreditation and curriculum status of any medical university before taking admission. The embassy has also clarified that the National Medical Commission does not approve any general list of universities for foreign medical education.
