CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The earnings of Malayalam cinema superstar Mohanlal’s film ‘L2: Empuraan’ have slowed down slightly after the release of Salman Khan’s ‘Sikandar’. Released on March 27, L2: Empuraan had been performing impressively at the box office from day one. Alongside Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran also plays a lead role in the film. As always, both actors have received tremendous praise from audiences and critics for their stellar performances.

Now, it will be interesting to see whether ‘L2: Empuraan’ can maintain its grip at the box office or if ‘Sikandar’ will overshadow its success.

According to box office tracker Sacnilk, L2: Empuraan earned ₹14 crore on its fourth day, bringing its total collection to ₹59.35 crore. The film earned ₹13 crore in Malayalam, ₹31 lakh in Telugu, ₹45 lakh in Tamil, ₹20 lakh in Hindi, and ₹4 lakh in Kannada. With a reported budget of ₹180 crore, the film still has a long way to go to be declared a hit. Whether the film can maintain its momentum in the coming days remains to be seen — especially in the face of competition from Salman Khan’s Sikandar.

L2: Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran, opened to a phenomenal start, collecting ₹21 crore on its first day — the biggest opening in the history of Malayalam cinema. Not just in India, the film also made history in the UK, becoming the first Indian film to achieve the highest-ever opening in that market.

A sequel to the 2019 blockbuster ‘Lucifer’, L2: Empuraan is directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. Its grand action sequences and Mohanlal’s powerful performance have been met with outstanding audience reactions.
