CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Srinagar. Security forces have achieved a major success in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district. Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Mohammad Asif, alias Hashim Musa, was killed in an encounter that began late Tuesday night in the Korag area of Yusmarg. According to the Army, he was a terrorist linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force launched a joint search operation in the Korag area on the basis of intelligence inputs. During the search, security forces noticed suspicious movement. The personnel challenged the terrorists, after which the terrorists opened fire and the encounter began. One terrorist was killed in retaliatory action.
During the morning search operation, security forces recovered the body of Mohammad Asif, alias Hashim Musa. The Army said war-like stores were also recovered from him. The Army has named the operation ‘Operation Korag’.
According to officials, Musa was accused of alleged involvement in several terror attacks on both sides of the Pir Panjal region. Reports said he had escaped from another encounter in the Yusmarg area earlier this month. The search operation is currently continuing in the area, with security forces looking for other terrorists who may be hiding.
