CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Lecture on ‘PR Education Day’ at Makhanlal Chaturvedi University The Advertising and Public Relations Department of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication organized a special lecture on “New Trends in PR Education” on the occasion of ‘PR Education Day’. The main speaker of the program was Prof. Mrinal Chatterjee from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication. The event was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. K.G. Suresh. In his presidential address, Prof. Suresh explained the difference between a journalist and a public relations officer, emphasizing the crucial role of a public relations officer for any company, government, or individual. He illuminated the necessity of Public Relations Day with ease and clarity, using various examples for the students.
Prof. Chatterjee discussed the importance of public relations with the students and highlighted the immense opportunities in the field. He explained the difference between corporate houses and business houses, and enumerated the qualities a public relations officer should possess, emphasizing the need for them to maintain coordination between the organization and society. He stated that a public relations officer’s role is no longer confined to writing press releases and handling interactions, but also requires good managerial skills. He stressed the use of new technologies, such as AI, while cautioning against complete reliance on them, suggesting that they should be used to enhance content as needed.
The program was coordinated by Prof. Pavitra Srivastava, Head of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations. The event was conducted by Dr. Jaya Surajani, and the vote of thanks was given by Dr. Gajendra Singh Avasya, Assistant Professor. The program saw participation from university teachers and students.
