A case has surfaced in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district in which liquor bottles were allegedly kept in a government electricity department office in the name of Diwali gifts. It is alleged that on Dhanteras, liquor bottles were being given to officers and employees along with sweets. Bottles were seen kept on and under several office tables. After the matter came to light, political activity intensified. Congress leaders recorded a video at the spot and lodged a complaint with police.
According to information, Blomendra Yadav, president of the Block Congress Committee Kanker Rural, received information that liquor was being distributed in the electricity department office. He then reached the office with party workers and recorded a video there. The Congress has alleged that liquor bottles were kept near employees' tables during office hours. Women employees were also present in the office at the time.
Police seize bottles, question EE
After receiving the complaint, a police team reached the electricity department office and seized the liquor bottles kept there for investigation. Police also took Executive Engineer (EE) S.K. Kindo to Kotwali police station for questioning. After information about the incident spread, other departmental officers and employees also reached the police station.
Executive Engineer denies allegations
Executive Engineer S.K. Kindo has denied having any knowledge of liquor bottles being kept in the office. He described the allegations against him as baseless. He also alleged that police took him to the police station in their vehicle and misbehaved with him during the process.
For now, police have seized the bottles and started investigating the matter. It is not yet clear who kept the liquor bottles in the office and whether they were actually meant to be distributed as Diwali gifts. The full facts of the case will emerge only after the investigation is completed.
