CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Sant Hirdaram Girls College, Bhopal, organised various educational, health and public awareness activities in its adopted village Mubarakpur on the occasion of Literacy Day and Nutrition Week. The objective of the programme was to make children and women in the rural area aware of education, health and nutrition.

As part of Literacy Day, NSS volunteers interacted with students at the village government school and taught them various subjects. The volunteers narrated moral and inspirational stories to the children, organised knowledge-enhancing games and involved them in creative activities. Stationery material was also distributed to the students on the occasion. The children took part enthusiastically in all activities and thoroughly enjoyed the programme.

In the same sequence, National Nutrition Week was also observed with the cooperation of the Anganwadi centre. Programme Officer Meena Barse and Ms Kanchan Chaturvedi provided women with essential information on a balanced diet, protein, calcium, hygiene and health. They encouraged the women to take regular care of their own and their families’ health, understand the importance of nutritious food and adopt a clean lifestyle.

The NSS unit, in collaboration with the Anganwadi centre, also jointly organised a free medical camp. ANM Ms Kanti Bais and ASHA worker Janki Kushwaha were specially present at the camp. NSS volunteers actively assisted in the conduct and arrangements of the camp. At the medical camp, rural women and other beneficiaries underwent free blood sugar tests, haemoglobin tests, blood pressure measurement, weight checks and health check-ups for pregnant women. Necessary health-related counselling was also provided, and they were encouraged to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Through the programme, a meaningful effort was made to increase awareness about education, health and nutrition. Villagers, women and children appreciated the programme and praised the social contribution of the NSS unit.
