CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Livestock owners have received significant relief from the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in cases where insurance companies failed to pay claims for their insured animals’ deaths. The commission has not only directed insurance companies to pay the claim amounts but also ordered them to provide 8% annual interest from the date of claim submission to the date of payment, along with legal expenses.

In the cases of Smt. Manjali (wife of Nirpat) from Damoh district and Mahesh Singh (son of Heera Singh) from Ghuhara village, The New India Insurance Company has been instructed to pay the claim amount and provide additional relief. Similarly, in the case of Director Gulab Ahirwar (son of Maniram) from Raneh village, Oriental Insurance Company has been directed to provide the claim amount and assistance. In another case, Lakshmi Rani Yadav (wife of Director Bihari Yadav) from Hatta village, Agriculture Insurance Company has been ordered to pay the claim amount and additional benefits.

It is noteworthy that under the National Livestock Insurance Scheme, implemented by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, livestock owners insure their animals. However, in many cases, insurance companies delay or unjustly withhold claim payments. For such cases, the Principal Secretary of Animal Husbandry and Dairying has instructed filing claims in the consumer forum.
