He discussed challenges such as disputes over the role and listing of authors in research papers, pressure to obtain positive results, improper use of research grants, failure to properly maintain research-related records and excessive emphasis on the number of publications rather than the quality of research. He laid special emphasis on proper record-keeping, transparent authorship, honesty, accountability, fairness and responsible management of research resources.
Emphasis on bioethics and responsible research on the third day
On August 22, Dr. Hem Jha of IIT Indore delivered a detailed lecture on “Bioethics in Research.” He said the scope of ethical standards in research should not be limited only to legal requirements. He highlighted important aspects such as respect for individuals, informed consent, maximising benefits, minimising potential harm, open science and collaborative research.
He also discussed challenges related to the Indian research system, including inadequate maintenance of research documents, issues related to authorship and publication, and the need for effective guidance and training on research ethics.
During the three-day Faculty Development Programme, participants received useful information on key subjects related to ethical research processes, responsible authorship, credibility of publication, maintenance of research documents, prevention of plagiarism, journal selection and emerging challenges in academic publishing.
