CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day amid intense protests by the opposition over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on the Mahakumbh. The session, which was expected to discuss key legislative matters, witnessed uproar as opposition members demanded an apology from the Prime Minister. The comments made by PM Modi during a recent speech have sparked controversy, with several opposition leaders accusing him of politicizing a sacred religious gathering.
As soon as the session began, opposition MPs raised slogans and entered the well of the house, disrupting proceedings. Speaker Om Birla made repeated appeals for order, but the protests continued, forcing the House to be adjourned. Opposition leaders stated that PM Modi’s remarks had hurt religious sentiments and were an attempt to divert attention from pressing national issues.
The ruling party, however, defended the Prime Minister, claiming that his words were taken out of context and that he had only highlighted the significance of the Mahakumbh in Indian culture. BJP leaders also accused the opposition of using religious sentiments for political mileage.
This adjournment adds to the ongoing political tensions in Parliament, where opposition parties have been strongly challenging the government on various issues, including economic policies and governance. With the Budget Session underway, such disruptions are likely to impact crucial legislative discussions.
As debates over the Prime Minister’s Mahakumbh remarks continue, all eyes will be on the upcoming Parliament sessions to see if a resolution can be reached or if the stalemate will persist.
